Through Dec. 12: Shakespeare exhibition tours

Guided tours offered for ‘Shakespeare Through the Ages’ exhibition

Throughout the fall semester, the University of Delaware Library will hold a series of guided tours of the current Special Collections exhibit, “Shakespeare Through the Ages.”

The tours -- led by the exhibit’s curator, Alexander Johnston, senior assistant librarian, Special Collections Department --  will be held at the following dates and times:

• Thursday, Nov. 3, noon;

• Thursday, Nov. 17, 3 p.m.; and

• Monday, Dec. 12, noon.

“Shakespeare Through the Ages” explores the reception and treatment of William Shakespeare’s works across the years, ranging from Shakespeare’s age to our own. The exhibition draws upon the full breadth of the University of Delaware Library’s extensive holdings of rare and unique materials by and about Shakespeare. Among the highlights on display are a 1632 second printing of Shakespeare’s works and 16th and 17th century printed editions of Shakespeare’s sources and his contemporaries.

This exhibition is one of a series of campuswide events related to Shakespeare, held in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death. The exhibition is on view in the Special Collections Exhibition Gallery in Morris Library through Dec. 12, during regular hours of the Special Collections Department: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and until 8 p.m., Tuesdays. The exhibition is available in an online version.

All tours of “Shakespeare Through the Ages” are free and open to the public.
