Library to offer pair of workshops on research funding

The University of Delaware Library will offer workshops on research funding on Nov. 2 and Nov. 16.

“Census Data for Grant Writing” will explore statistical databases produced by the U.S. Census Bureau and other publishers that can be used as supportive data within grant proposals. Participants will have an opportunity to practice accessing statistics from the American Community Survey (ACS), the American FactFinder and other sources.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Regional Office of the U.S. Census Bureau.

“Census Data for Grant Writing” will be offered by the UD Library from 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Library Instruction Room 116A on the first floor of the Morris Library.

Presenters will be Carol Rudisell, librarian, Reference and Instructional Services Department, and Noemi Mendez Eliasen, data dissemination specialist, Philadelphia Regional Office, U.S. Census Bureau.

“Research Funding Online” focuses on three library databases – Foundation Directory Online, Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, and COS Pivot – that faculty, students and staff can use to identify potential funding resources, such as grants from private foundations, corporations and government agencies.

The workshop will cover strategies for searching the databases, procedures for using alerting services, and locating additional grant information on the Internet.

This workshop is co-sponsored by the University of Delaware Research Office.

“Research Funding Online” will be offered from 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, also in Library Instruction Room 116A. Rudisell will be the presenter.

These workshops are available at no charge and are open to University of Delaware faculty, staff and students. “Census Data for Grant Writing” is also open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required. For a complete listing of workshops and to register online, go to the website.

Participants are welcome to use the resources of the University of Delaware Library on-site. All visitors to the Morris Library need to have photo identification to enter the building, e.g., a UD ONEcard, a U.S. driver’s license or a government-issued or school-issued photo ID.
