Dixson to discuss ‘Fish on Acid’ in Science Café presentation

The Science Café program continues at the Deer Park Tavern on Monday, Dec. 5, with a talk by the University of Delaware’s Danielle Dixson titled "Fish on Acid: How Climate Change Impacts Key Behaviors in Marine Organisms.”

The talk will take place at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Deer Park, located at 108 W. Main St., Newark.

Dixson, an assistant professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment’s School of Marine Science and Policy, will discuss the impacts ocean acidification will have on the behavior of fishes, from sharks to clownfish.

Ocean acidification is a global threat yet research has primarily focused on the impacts it will have to calcifying organisms, which can literally begin to dissolve when the seas become more acidic. Though not widely studied, fish are not immune to climate change threats, making this an important and timely topic.

Science Café is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be served.

This program is organized by the Center for Science, Ethics and Public Policy and supported by the National Science Foundation EPSCoR program and UD's Department of Philosophy.
