Parking Services announces third annual Cans for Cites food drive

University of Delaware Parking Services is getting into the holiday spirit and helping those in need at the same time, announcing a three-week food drive program as a way to pay parking citations.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 28, and running through the end of the semester, Dec. 16, parking citations can be paid for with non-perishable food items in the third annual Cans for Cites program.

Each non-perishable food item will count as $5 toward the cost of an on-campus parking citation that is less than 30 days old. Customers can choose to pay a citation in full or in part by bringing non-perishable food items to the Parking Services office at 147 Perkins Student Center.

While supplies last, customers who would like to obtain a small gift can bring specific items on specific days:

• Mix-Up Monday – Any mix items, pancake mix, muffin mix, etc.

• Tomato Tuesday – Any product with tomatoes, including sauces.

• Weighted Wednesday – Any item over one pound.

• Thirsty Thursday – Juice, shelf stable milk, or liquids.

• Fruity Friday – Any canned fruit items.

No citation? No problem

Non-perishable food donation barrels are available at Morris Library lobby, any parking garage lobby, or the Parking Services office.

Dining Services, the University Student Centers, and Morris Library have partnered with Parking Services to host Cookies for Cans tables from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:

• Nov. 29 and 30, Morris Library lobby, Trabant University Center and Perkins Student Center.

• Dec. 6 and 7, Morris Library lobby, Trabant University Center and Perkins Student Center.

• Dec. 13, Trabant University Center and Perkins Student Center.

Donors who drop off non-perishable food items at one of these tables will receive a cookie as a thank you for supporting the Food Bank of Delaware.

For those who want to make an impactful donation, the Food Bank of Delaware recommended donation list can be seen at this website.

All donated items will be delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware the week of Dec. 19, just in time for the holiday season. See the Parking Services website or contact the office at parking@udel.edu for detailed information.
