Grading fairly and effectively

First Friday Roundtable on grading will be held Dec. 2 in 208 Gore Hall

On Friday, Dec. 2, the First Friday Roundtable series at the University of Delaware will continue for the fall semester with the program “Grading Fairly and Effectively: Culturally Sensitive Assessment” from 3:30-5 p.m. in 208 Gore Hall.

All who teach at UD are invited to the last faculty roundtable of the semester sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning and facilitated by English Language Institute faculty and administrators: Michael Fields, Julie Lopez, Rachel Lapp, Karen Asenavage and Sandy McVey, Academic Technology Services.

Participants at this session will explore issues of culturally sensitive assessment construction to guide the design of assessments for all students in their courses.

They will also explore how assessments may create unintended stress and bias for students. Finally, participants will discuss how to create optimal assessment environments to maximize student learning outcomes.

Come learn from panelists who will share their tips for redesign.

Those who plan to attend are asked to register for the upcoming roundtable so that organizers can order plenty of holiday treats for attendees.

These monthly discussions provide an opportunity for faculty, instructors, and graduate students to examine teaching, learning and assessment practices and issues.

For information regarding future session topics and dates, visit the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning’s website.

The First Friday Roundtables are designed and sponsored through a collaboration of Faculty Commons partners including IT Academic Technology Services, the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education, the University of Delaware Library and the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning.
