Newark to hold annual Fourth of July fireworks at UD athletic complex

The city of Newark will hold its annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration from 6-10 p.m., Monday, July 4, at the University of Delaware’s David M. Nelson Athletic Complex.

The annual event draws approximately 18,000 people while the fireworks are viewed by an estimated 40,000 people in the area.

The University’s athletic complex will be filled with great activities and has plenty of space to lay down a blanket and enjoy the sun and then the fireworks. Fine arts and crafts booths are available to browse and games for the kids abound. Live musical entertainment will begin at 6 p.m.

Free parking is available in the University parking lots.

Community members who plan to attend are asked to leave their pets at home and be sure they are secured safely during the fireworks, as such displays tend to scare the animals.

The program is made possible, in part, by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency committed to promoting and supporting the arts in Delaware.

The rain date, with fireworks only, is scheduled July 5. If there are questions concerning possible weather postponements or cancellations, call the city’s Leisure Time Hot Line at 302-366-7147.

For additional information, call the Newark Parks and Recreation Office at 302-366-7000.
