Dover lifelong learning program to hold open houses at new location

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Dover has just moved to a new location at 1201 College Drive, in Dover’s College Business Park.

Members of the community are invited to two August open house events at the program’s new location, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 1-3 p.m., and on Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m.-noon.

These events will feature short demonstration classes, site tours and refreshments, and the opportunity to meet the program’s instructors, members and staff. Planned course demos include:

  • Aug. 2 – “Modern Constitutional Interpretation: It’s Not a Dead Document!” presented by Mary Boyd.
  • Aug. 2 – “The Van Gogh You May Not Know” presented by Art McLaughlin.
  • Aug. 17 – “Reinventing Ourselves As We Age” presented by Gail Johnston.
  • Aug. 17 – “Sing-along with Oklahoma!" presented by Sue Letavish.

Now entering its seventh year, the Dover program currently offers over 50 classes each semester, taught by an enthusiastic and dedicated group of instructors in subjects ranging from art, history, movies and literature, to computers, health and environment. The upcoming fall semester will start Sept. 6 at the new College Business Park location.

Dover lifelong learning member Joe Bailey, also a volunteer and new program council member, is passionate about the program’s learning opportunities. “I first joined the Dover program four years ago. Though I had never before been a motivated student, since then, I have taken between four and seven classes every semester and have even planned vacations around my class schedule,” said Bailey.
