Champion skater Johnny Weir to be featured in U.S. National Skating Send-Off

World-renowned skater and NBC skating analyst Johnny Weir will return to the University of Delaware where he once trained to perform in the University’s 2017 U.S. National Figure Skating Send-Off.

The special one-night event is scheduled at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena on South College Avenue.

Weir said he is excited to return for this special occasion at the rink where he began skating.

Also appearing in the show will be Jordan Evans, four-time national competitor and 2016 U.S. National Intermediate Men bronze medalist; Emmanuel Savary, 2017 Eastern Sectional Senior Men silver medalist and 2016 U.S. National Senior Men competitor; and Anastasia Cannuscio and Colin McManus, 2016 U.S. National Senior Ice Dance pewter medalists, Grand Prix competitors and national and international medalists.

Only 1,500 tickets are available for this event, and they go on sale beginning Monday, Dec. 5. Tickets -- at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and UD faculty and staff and $12 for children 12 and under and UD students with ID -- will be available through Ticketmaster, at the UD box office and at the ice arena.

Weir is a three-time U.S. National champion, two-time Olympian and World bronze medalist.

In 2013, he joined NBC's coverage for figure skating and the Olympic Games as a commentator. In 2014, along with his broadcast partner Tara Lipinski, Weir was promoted to lead figure skating analyst, as well as a leading NBC personality covering events ranging from the Oscars to the Super Bowl.

Weir continues to tour professionally around the world.
