Inaugural security measures

UD community members attending inaugural should arrive at 8 a.m.

Members of the University of Delaware community who are planning to attend the inaugural events for President Dennis Assanis on Wednesday, Dec. 7, are advised that due to extra security measures they should arrive at 8 a.m. at the Roselle Center for the Arts.

Extra security measures will be in place with the attendance of Vice President Joe Biden, a UD alumnus who will speak at the inaugural ceremonies, and additional time will be needed to screen attendees.

The ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. in the Thompson Theatre of the Roselle Center for the Arts.

Parking will be available in the center’s parking garage just off South Main Street.

The event will be live streamed on the University’s Inauguration website and at UD Live.

Attendees should use the main entrance of the Roselle Center for the Arts, closest to Orchard Road. They must go through a magnetometer checkpoint as required by the U.S. Secret Service.

Once inside the center, they will be greeted by registration hosts and provided a ticket for entrance into the Thompson Theatre or the overflow venue of Gore Recital Hall.

Secret Service has advised that the following items are prohibited:

• Firearms or weapons of any type.

• Hazardous materials, including chemical materials, radiological materials or biological materials.

• Knives of any kind.

• Toy guns and toy weapons.

• Fireworks.

• Pepper spray or mace.

• Scissors, razor blades, needles, Leatherman (or similar) tools, screwdrivers (or similar items).

• Glass bottles.

• Tripods.

• Coolers.

• Air-horns.

• Laser pointers.

• Aerosol containers and soda cans.

• Sticks, poles, baseballs, softballs, etc.

• Umbrellas.
