1743 Welcome Days opportunities for faculty, staff announced

The University of Delaware’s Newark campus will soon come alive for the annual opening weekend celebration, 1743 Welcome Days, and all faculty and staff are encouraged to help welcome the newest flock of Blue Hens to UD.

Planned by UD’s Division of Student Life in collaboration with campus partners, 1743 Welcome Days will kick off with new student move-in on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Faculty and staff who can serve as Blue Hen Helpers, assisting students moving into residence halls, are invited to sign up online through Aug. 18.

Those interested in taking a more active role in welcoming new families to UD, as well as coordinating volunteers, can contact Kristin Rolnick in Residence Life and Housing to serve as a Blue Hen Leader.

Additional opportunities to participate in 1743 Welcome Days include:

• Attending the Lavender Reception, a welcome event for members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community, on Monday, Aug. 29, from 4-6 p.m. in West Lounge at Perkins Student Center.

• Attending the 2016 Twilight Induction Ceremony, a formal welcome for all new students to the University community, on Monday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. on The Green. Participants interested in receiving a Twilight shirt and assisting with the candle lighting ceremony may sign up online.

A full schedule of 1743 Welcome Days events, including receptions beyond opening weekend, can be found on the website and will be shared throughout the weekend using the hashtag #udwelcome.

The Division of Student Life is comprised of multiple units designed to support and educate students in becoming thriving individuals, able to enrich their communities and make meaningful contributions to society as engaged citizens, inclusive leaders and lifelong learners.

Student Life includes UD’s Career Services Center, Center for Black Culture, Center for Counseling and Student Development, New Student Orientation, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Student Conduct, Office of the Vice President, Residence Life and Housing, Student Health Services, Student Services for Athletes, Student Wellness and Health Promotion, and the University Student Centers.
