"We strive for excellence in all that we do."

In May 2008, President Harker announced a major strategic plan for the University of Delaware, the Path to Prominence™. The plan highlights five guiding principles - Delaware first, diversity, partnership, engagement and impact, and six milestones: a diverse and stimulating undergraduate academic environment, a premier research and graduate University, excellence in professional education, the initiative for the planet, the global initiative and the engaged University.

Before coming to the University of Delaware, President Harker was dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Reliance Professor of Management and Private Enterprise. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering, a master's degree in economics and a doctorate in civil and urban engineering, all from the University of Pennsylvania.
