WEBER JOINS SWIFT COUNCIL

Lerner College dean appointed to SWIFT Institute advisory council

The SWIFT Institute has appointed Dean Bruce Weber of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics to its six-person advisory council.

SWIFT is a leading global financial technology organization. Operating a messaging platform from its Belgian headquarters, SWIFT connects more than 11,000 financial institutions and markets in more than 200 countries and territories by funding research and hosting conferences.

The SWIFT advisory council is designed to include thought leaders from academia and finance.

“I am very flattered to receive this invitation and look forward to contributing to the council’s activities,” Weber said. “SWIFT’s support of financial technology research is critical as the financial services industry works to utilize the latest data, resources and research findings.”

Weber, who is also a UD professor of business administration and an affiliated faculty member in the Institute for Financial Services Analytics, was previously professor of information management and area chair for management science and operations at London Business School.

Weber’s research on digital markets, compliance systems and financial sector computerization has been published in leading academic journals and cited in the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times. He is co-developer of the market structure simulation used in Nasdaq’s HeadTrader, and in TraderEx, an educational market platform in use in leading business schools.

Weber’s recent books, The Equity Trader Course and Mastering the Art of Equity Trading Through Simulation, evaluate the economic advantages of digital markets and highlight the new challenges facing securities traders, managers and regulators.
