Faculty Meeting on the Budget
February 13, 2012
I appreciate the Faculty Senate’s invitation to talk about the University’s budget. I’m thrilled that you’re interested and invested in the financial strength of UD—and what that strength gains for our students, our faculty, our staff, and our community.
I want to start by talking about where the University is financially—and why. The “why” goes directly to the strategic investments we’ve made over the past several years—investments I firmly believe will secure UD’s place among the country’s very best public universities. Without doubt, in areas where we saw opportunities for growth and excellence, we seized them.
Our Path to Prominence has guided those investments. That Path was embraced by the University community in 2008, and it’s our mandate still. So we’ve been faithful to the plan’s milestones, and we’ve invested in areas critical to helping us meet them.
