Mission

The Classification and Compensation Unit administers the University of Delaware's Classification and Compensation System to ensure that job responsibilities are appropriately defined and compensation decisions are fair, equitable, and competitive. The goal is to advance the University's mission of attracting and retaining skilled, motivated, and committed employees. We achieve this by creating a structure that is consistently applied and in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations and policies. At its core, the focus is on fairness and flexibility, alignment with the University's mission, and respect for individual needs and institutional values. Our objectives are to:

  • Maintain a clear classification and compensation strategy that articulates the relationship between institutional strategy and individual rewards, and recognizes the individual performance of employees
  • Ensure the system is legally compliant and defensible
  • Provide accurate classification and competitive compensation to attract and retain skilled employees
  • Align employee performance with the mission of the University
  • Periodically examine and make needed changes to strategy and practices within the context of the broader institutional strategy to ensure continued appropriateness
