Study Abroad
Our highest priority is the safety and security of students participating in our programs. Our staff has dealt with international crises in the past, and we will continue to maintain standard practices as we monitor the status of current and future programs. As always, we will evaluate all public announcements and advisories given by the U.S. State Department (www.state.gov/travel). We will remain in frequent contact with our resident directors and faculty directors at our program sites, and, if necessary, consult with other study abroad professionals administering programs at those same sites.
At this time no University of Delaware programs have been cancelled due to current international tensions. While we have no immediate plans to cancel programs, we will evaluate programs on a case by case basis and determine their feasibility based on information gleaned from the State Department, our faculty and staff abroad, international education colleagues at other U.S. colleges and universities, and multiple news sources.
Our guiding principle with regard to program cancellation will be whether there is a clear and present danger to students at the program site, and whether local circumstances are affecting the students and program activities over a sustained period. We are optimistic that our current and upcoming programs will take place as planned.
If you have further concerns about your student, please do not hesitate to contact us at 302-831-2852 or studyabroad@udel.edu.
These precautions make sense any time we have students abroad, but they have become even more relevant in recent weeks.
In order to promote the finest educational experience possible, the University of Delaware has established high standards of conduct for its students and student organizations. Individual students and student organizations are expected to know and comply with the policies in the Code of Conduct. Students who violate, attempt to violate, or aid others in violating its provisions may face sanctions for their actions. This Student Guide explains University standards and procedures.

Once you have been accepted, go to the online portal and read and agree to the terms of the general agreement and release form. Students who have not completed this step will not be permitted to participate in a program.
A copy of the Agreement and Release form is available FOR READING ONLY here as a PDF document, but DO NOT PRINT this version. It will only be accepted by IGS from students under age 18, who must obtain the signature of a parent or guardian.
These orientation / pre-departure meetings require a total commitment of 4-5 hours. The meetings are required to prepare you for your program. They include details related to expectations, conduct, housing, food, weather, and travel etc. University study abroad policy requires that the course content be taught while you are abroad (not before you leave). Although these meetings are not specifically course-related, they are required.
