The Study of the United States Institute on U. S. National Security Policy Making in a Post-9/11 World is offered through the combined resources of the University of Delaware's Institute for Global Studies and the Department of Political Science and International Relations, and is sponsored by the U. S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of Academic Exchanges under the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961 (as amended). This program, running from January 2, 2011 through February 13, 2011 brings an impressive group of eighteen foreign scholars from countries across the globe to Newark to participate in an extensive series of academic seminars, meetings with federal, state, and local government officials, as well as meetings with think-tanks, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The overall goal of the program is to facilitate a more informed exchange of ideas, discussions, and understandings between scholars and opinion leaders in the United States and in other countries. It is hoped that the long term effect of the program will be to develop stronger and more beneficial ties between the people in our communities. More specifically, the goal of the Institute is to provide these scholars with a greater understanding of American foreign policy and National Security policy. The Institute offers the opportunity to build an epistemic community amongst and between the scholars and their American counterparts lasting beyond the scholars' stay in the United States.

These goals will be pursued through an intensive academic program that will include lectures, readings, discussions, guided excursions, and informal social activities with faculty, students, and members of the larger community. The Institute is designed to consider policy from both pragmatic and theoretical perspectives. The scholars will hear from Americans and resident foreign nationals, each of whom offers a unique perspective, understanding, and opinion of American foreign policy.
