Faculty & Staff Campaign donors selected to sit in the President’s Box at first home football game
When the Blue Hens took to Tubby Raymond Field Thursday, August 29, to defeat the Jacksonville Dolphins in the first football game of the season, some lucky UD employees viewed the game from some of the best seats in the house.
The President’s Box at Delaware Stadium is located in a premium position at field level on the 50-yeard line. During home football games, these enviable seats are typically filled with a mix of University donors, employees, public officials and other guests. However, that night, the President’s Box was strictly reserved for 24 UD employees and their guests.
For the second straight year, President Harker showed his appreciation to UD employees by reserving his football box at the season’s home opener exclusively for faculty and staff members. Those who received ticket were chosen at random from the 577 employees who donated to the University’s Rising to the Challenge fundraising campaign in fiscal year 2013. The winners represented a variety of positions and departments across campus.
Deb Denson, Development Coach in the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, was one of the winners. As both a UD employee and parent of a UD freshman, Denson has close ties to the University. She was grateful for receiving an evening of Blue Hens football with the President in recognition of her charitable giving.
“My husband and I love to give back every year to the areas that mean the most to us,” Denson said. “To attend the opening game – a win – with other faculty and staff donors was wonderful. It was also a special night for us because our daughter, a brand new Blue Hen, was at her first game in the student section.”
Like Denson, Donna Laws, Business Administrator, Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management, won two tickets to sit in the President’s Box. “It was a fabulous evening. Coach Brock and the Blue Hens were awesome,” she said. “Giving back is important to me, and to receive this gift from President Harker was a joy!”
“UD is fortunate to have many dedicated employees who understand the importance of giving back to this community,” said President Harker. “I enjoyed the opportunity to thank employees for their participation and acknowledge their important role in our fundraising success.”
