An important part of the University of Delaware's mission is to engage our students in putting their education to work--and learning in the process--by helping to solve a problem or to address a new opportunity as a service to others. UD also contributes to economic and community development in Delaware and around the globe through a variety of research and educational partnerships.
Our students and the public are also afforded diverse opportunities for cultural and educational enrichment through public lectures by prominent speakers, the vast art collections and cultural treasures of the University Museums, and performances by our Music Department and Professional Theatre Training Program, to name only a few. in addition to public service programs, we conduct projects on and off campus with a variety of partners and provide a range of services to employers hiring UD students and alumni.
Major community service programs at UD include the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, Professional and Continuing Studies, Delaware Cooperative Extension, the Delaware Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service and Marine Public Education Office, and the Delaware Small Business Development Center. Many of our more than 50 research centers also have a public education and outreach component as well.
The Office of Service
Learning provides a central location for information
about service-learning opportunities for students at the University of
Delaware and supports faculty interested in developing service-learning
courses, helps students design individual service-learning projects, and
serves as a liaison for community partners interested in exploring new
service-learning connections with UD.
