In soccer, aerial battles for headers are a big part of the game. They can also lead to a concussion, a subject that UD’s Tom Kaminski has been studying for players on the interscholastic and intercollegiate levels.
UD’s Director of Athletic Training Education has been looking at the impact of headers in women’s collegiate soccer and their link to mild traumatic brain injuries. Kaminski is also part of a team of researchers involved in a $30 million NCAA-U.S Department of Defense study aimed at better understanding the history of concussions and improving the safety of student athletes and military service members.
He was recently awarded the Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
