Professional & Continuing Studies  

More than 1,000 continuing education and returning adult students attend UD for part-time and evening study, professional development programs, and distance-learning opportunities. Retirement-age individuals also take part in a variety of educational programs to pursue personal interests and enrichment. Distance Learning  

Part-time and full-time students can take courses from anywhere, through the Web and other distance-learning technologies. Qualified high school students have the opportunity to pursue University of Delaware courses through the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.

""Reading Skills Programs
Programs for students of all levels designed to help them become stronger readers and better students by focusing on comprehension, reading speed, study skills and reading enjoyment.

""SAT and ACT Test Preparation Programs
Designed to help prepare for success in two of the most widely used standardized college entrance exams: the ACT and the SAT.

""FAME/UNITE/MERIT/UD
A 4-week residential program to increase the participation of minorities in engineering and other science professions.

""Summer College
A 5-week residential summer school program for academically motivated high school sophomores and juniors.

""UD Dual Enrollment Program
This program enables Delaware public high schools to offer qualified students the valuable opportunity of simultaneously earning college and high school credits through distance learning courses during their junior and senior years.

""Governor's School for Excellence
This is a one-week summer residential program that brings together academically and artistically talented Delaware high school students who have completed their sophomore year.

""Upward Bound Program
A pre-college TRIO program for high school students who reside in New Castle county.

""Upward Bound Math/Science Program
A pre-college TRIO program for eligible students from Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, with an emphasis in the fields of math and science.


* Governor's School in China is no longer a Governor's School administered by Professional and Continuing Studies. A new program is being developed. For more information contact Dr. Jianguo Chen.


International Students  

The University of Delaware is committed to creating an educational community that is intellectually, culturally, and socially diverse, enriched by the contributions and full participation of persons from many different backgrounds. Currently, 60% of all UD undergraduates are non-residents of Delaware who represent nearly every U.S. state and a number of foreign countries. International students comprise nearly one-quarter of UD's graduate enrollment, with representation by students from more than 50 countries.

UD also offers intensive English language programs for international students and professionals through our English Language Institute.

  • i-card The i-card is the official identification card of the University of Delaware. This card can be used to access such services and facilities as parking and fitness centers, student activities and voting, the dispensary and student health services, athletic facilities and events, dining Meals and Points , vending , laundry, and copiers. You can also arrange to access to link your i-card to a PNC bank account for STAR transactions.
  • FLEX With your University ID card in hand, you can leave the cash at home. FLEX can let you enjoy campus-wide cashless purchasing power at all dining locations, the University Bookstore, the Perkins Student Center, the Trabant University Center, campus box offices, the student health center and parking services - just to name a few places.
