Animal Subjects in Research
Federal regulations require that all use of non-human vertebrate animals in research, teaching, and testing follow established guidelines and be reviewed and approved by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), which is constituted according to the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
The IACUC is a federally mandated committee implemented by University personnel which oversees the use of live, non-human vertebrate animals in all biomedical and ecological research, teaching, and testing performed by University employees or by users of the University's animal facilities, or on University-owned animals housed at non-University operated sites. Procedures to be followed to gain approval for the use of animals in research at the University of Delaware can be found in Policy 6-13 .
