Pool membership deadline Friday, June 17

5:35 p.m., June 15, 2005--Memberships for the coolest way to spend hot summer days are going, going...almost gone.

The deadline for getting a membership in UD’s Outdoor Pool is Friday, June 17, and only a handful of slots remain.

In the past, applications for memberships were available through the Fourth of July weekend, but pool officials don’t see that happening this summer. On Sunday, June 12, more than 900 persons turned out to take a dip and catch some rays.

Once memberships are sold out, a waiting list will be started.

The 2005 season runs through Aug. 29, plus Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5. Interested persons can register online at [www.udel.edu/outdoorpool/], and membership applications also are being accepted from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., through Friday, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena.

UD’s Outdoor Pool, the largest in the state, is located behind the Gold Ice Arena and features new slides and a new pool heater to keep the water temperature comfortable throughout the swimming season.

Amenities include shower and changing facilities, a 6-inch-deep baby pool, a snack bar with new menu options, including small salads, cups of fruit and yogurt and a deck complete with chaise lounge furniture. Lessons are available to members on a first-come, first-served basis, at an additional charge.

Special events for members include free guest weekends (new this year), annual members' picnic and Pool Appreciation Day.

University employees may pay for their pool membership through payroll deductions. Call (302) 831-2868 or visit [www.udel.edu/outdoorpool/].
