UD mileage reimbursement increase set

2:24 p.m., Aug. 7, 2008--In response to the rapid rise in the cost of automobile fuel, the University of Delaware will increase its rate of reimbursement for private-car mileage while on University business by 31 percent, from 42 cents per mile to 55 cents per mile, effective Monday, Aug. 11, 2008.

The federal government's mileage rate typically is modified annually, based on economic conditions and the costs of operating a privately owned vehicle. This year, new federal rates were announced in January and July to accommodate the accelerating costs of vehicle operation.

The new University reimbursement rate restores the longstanding relationship between the UD's rate and the federal reimbursement rate and is in line with similar actions by many comparable universities.
