The University of Delaware’s online epidemiology methods graduate certificate provides the opportunity for additional training in epidemiologic methods needed to study the determinants and distribution of a broad range of health issues. The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Delaware offers the Epidemiology Methods Certificate. This 12-credit graduate certificate provides students with foundational and advanced knowledge of epidemiological research methods and biostatistics.

Note: For students who choose to pursue further graduate study at the University of Delaware, all credits earned in either epidemiology certificate may be applied toward the MS in Epidemiology or MPH in Epidemiology degrees.

Admission Requirements for the Epidemiology Certificate

Applicants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds who have a strong interest in public health and epidemiological methods are encouraged to apply. Each application will be evaluated individually on the basis of prior academic achievement, professional experience, and interest in public health. Acceptance to the certificate program is based on a composite of the applicant’s scholastic record, letters of reference, and a personal statement. Relevant work experience may also be taken into consideration. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in any academic field from an accredited college or university with an earned GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

Required application materials include:

  • Current degree program (if any), expected completion date, current GPA
  • Academic transcripts from degrees earned previously
  • Brief statement addressing the following prompts: 
    1. What educational background and scientific research or employment experience prepares you for this graduate certificate?
    2. How will acquiring this graduate level training in epidemiology help you achieve your long-term professional objectives?
    3. What diseases/conditions are your content areas of interest and/or expertise?

The epidemiology graduate certificates require satisfactory completion of the graduate level courses listed below. Each certificate program course must be completed with a grade no lower than a C-, and the overall GPA earned must be no lower than 3.0.
