From our Alumni Association

Alumni Association President Shante Hastings

I must begin my first letter as Alumni Board president by congratulating director Cindy Campanella and the Office of Alumni Relations for the great success of the University’s inaugural Forum & Reunion Weekend.

On the following pages, you can read about the weekend’s many activities. I challenge all alumni to bring a friend and attend next year’s festivities.

Another great new tradition at UD this spring was the initiation of the “Pinning Ceremony” at Commencement, with the graduates of the Class of 2009 receiving special pins designating their status as our newest alumni.

As president of the UD Alumni Association (UDAA) it is my objective to continue to lead the board committees in support of President Harker’s strategic plan, the Path to Prominence™, and the Alumni Relations’ objective to engage all 140,000 alumni to ensure that they stay connected with the University. In addition, it is imperative that the UDAA continue to identify fundraising programs that will provide the capital needed for the many great awards and scholarship programs we support each year.

As part of my goal to communicate the goals and objectives of the UDAA, I am sharing the new mission statement created by the Alumni Relations Office in its recent strategic plan. This impact statement highlights how we plan to develop the infrastructure, resources and programs for all students and alumni:

“In the spirit of the Fightin’ Blue Hens, we increase engagement and promote lifelong relationships and learning with our current and future alumni. We extend and enrich the UD experience by providing networking opportunities, programs, activities and services that celebrate our alumni and the University. We instill pride in our alma mater by fostering traditions and strong connections among alumni, students, faculty, staff and UD friends.”

I would like to thank our board members whose terms ended June 30 for their dedicated service. They are Anne Schulte Biddle ’80, Terrance Bowman ’95, Thomas DiMuzio ’71, Joseph Perello ’91 and Laura Lyon Slaymaker ’89. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge Shanté Stargell Hastings’ many years of service on the board and her leadership for the past two years as president.

Sincerely,

Alan L. Brayman ’73BE
President, UD Alumni Association
