Funding Opportunities
Funding opportunities for sponsored
research are available to UD-eligible principal investigators from a variety
of federal and state agencies and private foundations. An excellent tool for
identifying potential funding opportunities is the Community
of Science database, which
is available to UD employees through a paid subscription from UD's Morris Library.
Library staff periodically offer workshops on effective use of the database.

Many federal agencies and foundations
offer grants, awards, and fellowships that limit the number of applications
that can come from one institution. In order to increase the chances of UD
succeeding in such "limited submission opportunity" applications,
UD Research Office
has established procedures for reviewing pre-proposals for such competitions
in a timely fashion. To have your pre-proposal considered, please use the Limited
Submission Web form to
provide the relevant information, and follow these guidelines:
- Find the sponsor's due date for proposals.
- Subtract eight weeks and submit the pre-proposal to the Research Office by that date.
- The Research Office will evaluate the sponsor's request for proposals and convene a committee to review the UD pre-proposals submitted and determine which pre-proposal, based on merit, should be developed into a full proposal.
- Whenever possible, the Research Office will provide the successful PI four weeks (or more) to prepare the full proposal for submission to the sponsor.
