Townsend Hall
Townsend Hall
Originally named Agricultural Hall when it opened in 1952, Townsend Hall was later named in honor of John Gillis Townsend, Jr., former Governor of Delaware (1917-1921) and former U.S. Senator (1929-1946).
Townsend Hall is home to the four departments of the University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources: Animal and Food Sciences, Plant and Soil Sciences, Applied Economics and Statistics, and Entomology and Wildlife Ecology. It also houses UD’s Cooperative Extension which connects community members and industry professionals with University research, and the Center for Experimental and Applied Economics, a laboratory where student and faculty researchers explore a variety of economic and consumer behaviors.
Townsend Hall serves as the anchor of our 350-acre classroom featuring working farmland, greenhouses, gardens, wetlands, forests, rice paddies, and a dairy creamery —all of which provide hands-on learning opportunities to train the next generation of scientific leaders.
