Center for Disabilities Studies' Artfest set Sept. 6

9:51 a.m., Aug. 29, 2008--UD's Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) is holding Artfest 2008 from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Sept. 6, for persons with disabilities.

Artfest, an art workshop, gives older children, teens, young adults and adults with disabilities an opportunity to create artwork that will be used to illustrate CDS's annual report, which will have a calendar format. The past two annual reports also have included artwork created by persons with disabilities at art workshops.

As in past years, the workshop will be conducted by Lisa Bartoli, founder of the Art Therapy Express Program Inc., the first mobile expressive arts program to serve children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional challenges within Delaware schools, hospitals and community organizations. Bartoli currently works with students at the John G. Leach School in New Castle, Del., and conducts other art therapy programs in the community.

The registration deadline for Artfest 2008 is Thursday, Sept. 4. Register by contacting Michele Sands at (302) 831-3038 or [msands@udel.edu] with the name, age and contact information for the person who will be participating in the workshop.

The workshop will be held at the Center for Disabilities Studies, 461 Wyoming Road, Newark, Del.

The mission of the Center for Disabilities Studies is to enhance the lives of individuals and families in Delaware through education, prevention, service, and research related to disabilities. The Center promotes independence and productivity so individuals and families can fully participate in the life of the community.
