’U.S. Space Vehicles’ exhibit on display at library

4:44 p.m., June 24, 2008--In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing, an exhibition titled “United States Space Vehicles” will be on display from Tuesday, June 24-Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Information Room of the Morris Library.

In 2009, the United States will mark the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing, which took place on July 20, 1969, and to highlight this milestone, the “United States Space Vehicles” exhibit at UD's Morris Library will include books and other materials about the progress of manned spaceflight in the United States. The four-case display will highlight the different designs and functions of each series of space vehicles that led to the current shuttle program.

The exhibition will include books that illustrate the functions and missions of the Mercury and Gemini series, the Apollo series and lunar missions and the Shuttle (STS) series. There also will be materials with information regarding the accidents of Apollo I, Apollo XIII, Challenger and Columbia. Materials for the exhibition will come from the library's general collection, the government documents collection and the media collection.

The show, which is free and open to the public during regular library hours, was curated by David Cardillo, library generalist in the reference department of the University of Delaware Library.
