Democracy in Latin America forums set March 19, 20

3:15 p.m., March 12, 2007--UD's Latin American Studies Program presents panel presentations by UD faculty and outside experts on “The Year of Elections: Voters and Democracy in Latin America” at 7 p.m., Monday, March 19, and again at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in 115 Purnell Hall.

On Monday, March 19, faculty will make presentations on key elections in Latin America. Scheduled speakers are: Sue Davis, UD professor of political science and international relations, on Mexico; Julio Carrión, UD associate professor of political science and international relations and director of UD's Latin American Studies Program, on Peru; Mónica Dominguez, UD assistant professor of art history, on Venezuela; and Carla Guerrón-Montero, UD assistant professor of anthropology, on Ecuador.

On Tuesday, March 20, visiting faculty and experts will make presentations on multidisciplinary views in Latin America. Scheduled speakers are: Cynthia McClintock, professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University, on “Elections and Democracy in Latin America;” Michael Shifter, vice president for policy at Inter-American Dialogue, on “The U.S. and Latin America;” and Pablo Parás, creator of Data-OPM in Mexico City, on “Elections and Voters: A Pollster's View.”

The presentations are sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Committee on Activities and Public Events (CAPE), the Department of Anthropology, the Department of Art History, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the International Council of Delaware and the Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs and International Programs.
