World Skating Send-Off tickets nearly sold out
12:07 p.m., March 2, 2007--As of Friday afternoon, March 2, just 226 tickets remained for the University of Delaware World Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition featuring world and national champion Kimmie Meissner. The event will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. It is highly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance because officials cannot guarantee any tickets will be available for walk up sales the afternoon of the event. Meissner, 17, who competes for the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, won the 2007 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championship on Jan. 27 in Spokane, Wash., and followed up with a win in the Four Continents competition. She is preparing to defend her 2006 world title at the International Skating Union championships, to be held March 19-25 in Tokyo. She will perform twice during the March 3 exhibition. Joining Meissner on the ice will be reigning world ice dance champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski of Bulgaria, U.S. national silver medalists and 2006 Olympic team members Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, Japanese world team members Nozomi Watanabe and Akiyuki Kido, who train at UD, and a number of other University-based skaters. The skating exhibition is sponsored by Skatebuys and the News Journal. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for senior citizens 62 and older, children 18 and younger, and UD faculty and staff, and can be purchased at UD box offices at the Trabant University Center or the Bob Carpenter Center, or through Ticketmaster [www.ticketmaster.com].
