Philly Fed president to speak at UD April 10
9:14 a.m., March 21, 2007--Charles Plosser, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, will deliver the 2007 Hutchinson Lecture, “Credibility and Commitment," at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, in 120 Smith Hall. The talk will address Plosser's views on the importance of credibility and commitment as it relates to monetary policy. Sponsored by the Department of Economics in UD's Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics, the lecture is free and open to the public. Plosser became the 10th president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in August 2006. He previously was the John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics and Public Policy and director of the Bradley Policy Research Center at the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester, where he also served as dean from 1993-2003. Plosser, who has authored numerous academic articles, received his doctorate and master's degree in business administration from the Plosser has served as a consultant to many corporations, including Chase Manhattan Bank, Eastman Kodak Co. and the Wyatt Co., on topics ranging from strategic planning and forecasting to portfolio and pension-fund management, capital budgeting and financial analysis. He has served as an advisory board member of the Rochester New Enterprise Forum, the Metropolitan Advisory Board of Chase Manhattan Bank and the University Technology Seed Fund. The Hutchinson Lecture series was established in 1990 to honor the distinguished academic career of the late Harry D. Hutchinson, a professor of economics who taught at UD from 1959-89. Hutchinson received his doctoral degree in economics from the University of Michigan and worked at UD until his retirement. His career was distinguished by excellence in teaching and scholarship and his textbook, Money, Banking & The U.S. Economy, was the foundation for many students' introduction to financial institutions.
