Energy, environmental policy lecture series set

11:37 a.m., March 1, 2007--A colloquium series on “Contemporary Issues in Energy and Environmental Policy” begins today, Thursday, March 1, with a talk by Liz Robinson, executive director of the Energy Coordinating Agency of Philadelphia. Her talk, “Building Momentum to Get Philly Beyond Oil,” is scheduled from noon-1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center. The event is open to the UD community. Lunch will be provided.

The Energy Coordinating Agency is a nonprofit organization that provides a full range of energy services to residential and small commercial customers in the Philadelphia area. The agency and its network of Neighborhood Energy Centers serve more than 30,000 low- income households every year. Robinson, who has served as its executive director since its inception in 1984, has more than 25 years of experience in energy services, community development, and education.

The colloquium series continues throughout the spring with all talks being held from noon-1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center. Other lecture topics include:

  • “Ecosystem Services in U.S. Environmental Policy,” presented by Christopher Lant, professor of geography and environmental resources at Southern Illinois University, on Thursday, March 8;
  • “The Role of States and Localities in Climate Change Policy,” presented by J. James Marzilli Jr., Massachusetts state representative, on Thursday, March 22;
  • “The Power of Partnerships--Mobilizing Companies to Tackle Climate Change with World Wildlife Fund's Climate Savers Initiative,” presented by Matthew Banks, senior program officer, Climate Change Program, World Wildlife Fund, on Thursday, April 12; and
  • “The Future of Nuclear Energy and the Illogic of the U.S. Global Nuclear Energy Partnership,” presented by Harold Feiveson, senior research scientist, Princeton University, on Thursday, April 19;

The series will conclude with the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy's Distinguished Alumnus Colloquium to be scheduled in May.
