Downtown Newark Hosts Wine & Dine Festival 4:38 p.m., March 27, 2007--Newark's third annual Wine & Dine Downtown will be held from 4-9 p.m., Saturday, March 31. During the event, 17 Downtown Newark restaurants will open their doors to more than 30 fine wineries in celebration of spring, food, wine and fun. No tickets are necessary; patrons will pay as they go. Each restaurant will offer 2-ounce tastes of at least three different wines for $2. Premium tastings also may be available at varying prices. Bistro menus will be priced to allow attendees to sample many of the specialty menus chefs are preparing to compliment their wine offerings. Restaurants will fashion their specials based on their featured wines and focus on how wine can influence a meal's flavor, preparation and overall enjoyment. Bistro-type menus will be offered at each restaurant to allow Wine & Dine participants to sample as many restaurant menus as they wish. The restaurants will also serve as classrooms for those interested in learning more about wines. Participating wineries will have representatives at the restaurants to answer questions and, in some cases, conduct mini-seminars on the subject. Strolling entertainment, balloon decorations and a free trolley shuttle will be provided. The event also will feature retail specials.
