Race, Ethnicity and Culture lecture series continues

3:54 p.m., March 19, 2007--UD's Women's Studies Program is sponsoring a spring lecture series, “Research on Race, Ethnicity and Culture.” The series, free and open to the public, is slated for 12:20-1:10 p.m., Wednesdays, in 116 Gore Hall. The series also serves as a one-credit pass/fail course for UD students.

Upcoming lectures in the series include:

  • “Community Responses Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault: Current Reports of the Movement Among Women of Color,” by Patricia Baker Simon, Esq., March 21;
  • “Decoding Visual Body Language: Gender Roles in Advertising,” Liz Dunkle, editorial coordinator for UD's Publications Office, April 4;
  • “Spiritual Capital,” by Alan Noghiu, Human Services, Education and Public Policy doctoral student, April 11;
  • “The Significance of Felica Rincon de Gautier's Image in Puerto Rican Politics,” by Dilia Lopez-Gydosh, assistant professor of fashion and apparel studies, April 18;
  • “Street Life-Oriented Black Men and Gender Identity: Organizing Notions of Masculinity,” by Yasser Payne, assistant professor of Black American Studies, April 25;
  • “The Racialization of Sexual Politics: Queer Theory and the Centrality of White Male Identity,” by Aaron Bryant, American Studies doctoral student at the University of Maryland-College Park and assistant curator of the James Lewis Museum at Morgan State University, May 2; and
  • “Understanding the Diverse Backgrounds of your Co-Workers Using Personal Stories: Effective Listening Can Change Attitudes,” by Vanessa Harper, program coordinator of UD's Center for Disability Studies, May 9.
