Faculty Senate volunteers deadline March 15

11:53 a.m., March 8, 2007--A call is out from the Faculty Senate's Committee on Committees and Nominations (COCAN) for faculty members to volunteer to serve on committees and to also consider becoming candidates for the elected positions of president elect, vice president, secretary and chairperson of COCAN, serving on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.

Serving in the elected positions is crucial for the Faculty Senate to function effectively and plays an important role in the running of the Faculty Senate and the University, according to Margaret Birney, associate professor of nursing, who chairs COCAN, and volunteers are needed.

Faculty members also are asked to nominate others who might consider running for office or serving as a committee member.

The deadline to volunteer for committees or run for office is Thursday, March 15. A list of the standing committees with a brief summary of the responsibilities and an estimate of the time required to serve has been sent to members of the faculty. Faculty are asked to use the list to indicate interests and nominations and to return it to Karren Helsel-Spry in the Faculty Senate office at 180 South College Ave.

For more information on Faculty Senate standing committees, go to [www.udel.edu/facsen/committees/index.html] or contact Birney or Helsel-Spry at (302) 831-2921 or [karren@udel.edu].
