Application deadline extended for China trip

UD faculty violinist Xiang Gao will lead a trip to China.

2:11 p.m., March 9, 2007--The deadline has been extended for applications to participate in a special trip to China, coordinated by world-renowned University of Delaware faculty violinist Xiang Gao and his wife, Renee Dong, a member of the foreign languages and literatures department faculty at UD.

The trip, which is sponsored by the UD Alumni Association and is open to all interested travelers, will depart June 4 and return on June 18. Participants now have until Monday, March 19, to register.

Originally from the China, Gao and Dong are bilingual, bicultural and experienced tour directors. The 14-day private tour offers many special excursions and programs and a rare opportunity to experience China's 5,000 years of history, culture and music.

The trip will include visits to China's most important historical cities including Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Suzhou and Zhou Zhuang and famous landmarks, including the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses, palaces, museums and much more.

Special events include a Tang Dynasty Dance in Xi'an, a Beijing Opera performance, a Chinese traditional acrobatic performance, a pedicab tour of the old residential quarter of Beijing, a night boat ride on the Huangpu River in Shanghai and other excursions.

In addition, Gao and Dong will give short lectures, including “Modern Chinese Society” by Dong, “Musical and Cultural Traits of China” by Gao and classes in TaiQi, brush painting calligraphy and other Chinese skills.

The cost, including a Chinese visa, is $3,519 and includes roundtrip airfare from New York's JFK airport to Beijing and air travel within China (airport departure taxes are not included), 12 nights in world-class hotels, 31 meals, including nine dinners with menus chosen by Gao, and top quality local tour guides, plus entertainment and cultural offerings.
