Maryanne Brown-MacKay, administrative assistant, MALS Program, “Architectural Eclecticism in Penn’s Grove, N.J.: The Houses on Delaware Avenue,” to Salem County school librarians and media service personnel, Oct. 28, as part the Literacy Across the Curriculum event sponsored by the Salem County Historical Society.

Several members of the Delaware Geological Survey made presentations at the National Geological Society of America annual meeting and exposition, Oct. 16-18, Salt Lake City: Andrew Klingbeil, limited term researcher, “Hydrologic Mapping of the Unconfined Aquifer in Sussex County, Del.”; Matthew Martin, limited term researcher, “Digital Water-Table Mapping in Delaware”; Mark Neimeister, limited term researcher, “Modeling Groundwater Contaminant Flow Paths in Delaware”; and Vincent Pellerito, limited term researcher, “Development of a Ground-Water Quality Database for Historic Occurrences of Contaminants in Delaware Shallow Domestic Wells.”

Marian Lief Palley, professor of political science and international relations, lectured on social construction of gender roles in the United States and Ukraine at Zaporizhia National University and changing roles for women in contemporary societies at Kiev Pedagogical University, Oct. 1-14, Ukraine.

Rudi Matthee, professor of history, lectured on his new book, The Pursuit of Pleasure: Drugs and Stimulants in Iranian History, 1500-1900, in Persian, Oct. 23, and, in English, Oct. 24, at University of California at Los Angeles and Nov. 3, at New York University; he was interviewed about the book on Radio Seda-ye Iran in Los Angeles and Radio Farda in Washington, D.C. ; and presented “Christians in Safavid Iran: Hospitality and Harassment,” at Institute for Economic Research on Civilizations and the Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute, Oct. 25, at University of Southern California.

Service

William S. Schenck, scientist, Delaware Geological Survey and president of the Delaware Board of Geology, represented Delaware at the 2005 annual meeting of the National Association of State Boards of Geology, Nov. 2-6.
