LBJ biographer to speak at UDLA dinner Thursday

5:14 p.m., April 24, 2006--The annual dinner of the University of Delaware Library Associates (UDLA) will be held on Thursday, April 27, at Arsht Hall, University of Delaware, Wilmington.

The guest speaker will be Robert A. Caro, the award-winning author of the three-volume work The Years of Lyndon Johnson (The Path to Power; Means of Ascent; and Master of the Senate), who will speak on “Personality, Power and Politics.”

Because of a severe, health-related condition, Ron Chernow, award-winning author of Alexander Hamilton, is unable to speak at the dinner on April 27 as previously announced.

Robert A. Caro is the winner of two Pulitzer Prizes in biography, the National Book Award and the Francis Parkman Prize, which is awarded by the Society of American Historians to the book that “best exemplifies the union of the historian and the artist.”

He has twice won the National Book Critics Circle Award and has received the H. L. Mencken Award, the Carr P. Collins Award from the Texas Institute of Letters, and an Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.

The evening will begin with refreshments at 6 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by dinner and the program. Dinner prices are $85 per person for members of the University of Delaware Library Associates and $110 per person for guests.

The event is open to the public via a paid dinner reservation. For more information call the Office of the Director of Libraries at (302) 831-2231.
