Sharon K. Epps, senior assistant librarian, “African American Women and Leadership in Academic Libraries,” at fourth national Diversity in Libraries Conference, May 4-5, Atlanta.

Valerie Hans, professor of sociology and criminal justice, discussed research on the juvenile death penalty on Wilmington’s WHYY-TV on Oct. 11 and on WDEL radio on Oct. 12.

Honors

Sandy Campbell, senior laboratory technician in the Office of Laboratory Animal Medicine, took second place with her poster, “Enhancing the Housing of Red-Eared Sliders (Chrysemys scripta elegans),” presented at the AALAS-Tri Branch symposium June 8 in Philadelphia. At the same meeting, Julie Mis, senior laboratory technician, won the AALAS District 2 Lab Products Animal Technician Award, which included a trip to the national meeting in Tampa in October.

Service

Adarshpal Sethi, professor of computer and information sciences, has been invited to join the editorial board of the International Journal of Network Management, which publishes research papers on all aspects of computer network management including theoretical experimental and case studies. He also serves on three other editorial boards.

Sharon K. Epps, senior assistant librarian, has been appointed to the executive board of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association for the 2004-06 term. She also serves as nominations committee chairperson of the systems and services section of the Library Administration and Management Association of the American Library Association for the 2004-05 term.

Valerie Hans, professor of sociology and criminal justice, attended the American Bar Association’s national symposium on the American jury system, Oct. 14-15, at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., which sought to develop national standards for trial by jury.
