Winter Faculty Institute registration under way

L. Dee Fink
8:35 a.m., Dec. 1, 2004--Faculty members who want to explore new ways to teach their students will want to attend “Designing Courses for Significant Learning,” an interactive, hands-on session at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, in 208 Gore Hall, led by L. Dee Fink--the keynote presenter of UD’s 2005 Winter Faculty Institute.

Fink is president of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education--the largest organization for faculty development in the United States. He also is director of the Instructional Development Program at the University of Oklahoma. Visit [www.ou.edu/idp/dfink.htm] to learn more about his work and research.

Participants will learn how to incorporate innovative ideas and practices into their courses that will help their students learn more. And in the process, they will draw on--and benefit from--the experience and ideas of faculty colleagues.

Sponsored by IT-User Services, the Center for Teaching Effectiveness and the General Education Initiative, the event begins with breakfast from 8:30-9 a.m. Fink’s workshop runs from 9 a.m.-noon.

Register online for the keynote Winter Faculty Institute session at [http://present.smith.udel.edu/calendar/detail.php?classid=606]. To reserve a seat, be sure to register by Friday, Dec. 17. Space is limited. Participants will receive a set of session materials for review before the event.

During January, Winter Faculty Institute classes will expand on Fink’s model for instructional design, using online examples allowing faculty to adapt it to meet their own needs. Attendance at any Winter Faculty Institute class makes participants eligible to win a raffle. One prize is an Apple iPod photo [www.apple.com/ipodphoto/].

Register online for all Winter Faculty Institute sessions at [http://present.smith.udel.edu/calendar/index.php?year=2005&month=01].
