Newark hosts Wine & Dine Downtown April 2

10:12 a.m., March 21, 2005--Twelve Downtown Newark restaurants will open their doors to eleven fine wineries in celebration of spring, food, wine and fun from 4-9 p.m., Saturday, April 2. Newark’s first-ever Wine & Dine Downtown is sponsored by Century Wines & Spirits, the Delaware Beverage Company, the Downtown Newark Partnership and participating restaurants.

Besides highlighting the unique offerings of fine wineries, Newark’s restaurants also will serve as classrooms for those interested in learning more about wines. Participating wineries will have experts on-hand at the restaurants to answer questions and, in some cases, conduct mini-seminars on the subject.

The downtown restaurants will fashion their specials based on their featured wines and focus on how wine can influence a meal’s flavor, preparation and overall enjoyment. Bistro-type menus will be offered at each restaurant to allow Wine & Dine participants to sample as many of downtown Newark’s fine restaurants’ menus as they wish.

Wineries slated to participate in the festival include: Beaulieu Vineyards (in two locations); Beringer Vineyards, Casa Lapostolle, Chateau St. Jean, Conti of Chile, Mirassou Winery, Solaris, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Sterling Winery, Terrazas and Trimbach.

The wineries will be showcased at: Adria Cafe, Ali Baba, Caffe Gelato, Cuccina de Napoli, Deer Park Tavern, East End Cafe, Iron Hill Brewery, Home Grown Cafe, Klondike Kates, Saigon, The Trap Seafood Restaurant and Timothy’s of White Clay Creek.

To add to the excitement, strolling entertainment, balloon decorations and a free trolley shuttle will be provided. The event also will feature retail specials and the first-ever Wine & Dine Downtown Register to Win Contest.

Patrons can enter at any one or all of the participating merchants during the event to win a $25 gift certificate from that store and be automatically entered to win a Downtown Newark shopping spree worth hundreds of dollars.

Free parking (both meters and lots) will be available in Downtown Newark, and the first 600 customers will receive a commemorative wine glass compliments of Wilmington Trust Co.
