Wellness walkers win 3:36 p.m., March 8, 2005--Two UD employees who registered for the spring walking program starting April 3 have already won prizes. Registration ends Thursday, March 17. The Employee Wellness Center drew from a total of more than 300 names to award two early-bird prizes. Debra Morris, senior secretary in the medical technology department, won lunch for two donated by Vita Nova, and Gale Bragg, maintenance storekeeper in facilities management, won a one-night stay at the new Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel. The goal of the spring walking program is to get participants in the habit of engaging in regular walking--inside or outside of work. This year's program, "Ship-to-Shore, involves an imaginary eight-week journey from the Port of Wilmington to Fenwick Island. Employees and retirees choose one of three different walking levels--5, 10 or 15 miles weekly. Throughout the program, participants "earn" mileage and advance from town to town to reach their final destination. All registrants receive a log to record their mileage, motivational e-mails and a handy shoe wallet. The shoe wallet can be used to hold money, keys or ID. In addition, random prizes will be awarded weekly. New this year is the opportunity to sign up as an individual or a team of five. Grand prize is a weekend at UDs Virden Center in Lewes, for an individual or lunch for five plus a $50 gift certificate to each member from Save on Sneaks for a team. The cost to participate is 15 Wellness Dollars. For more information, go to [www.udel.edu/wellness] or call (302) 831-1109. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
