Local help sought for hurricane victims

2:55 p.m., Sept. 2, 2005--Members of the University community willing to temporarily house victims left homeless by Hurricane Katrina are being sought by a placement agency in Baton Rouge, La.

The commitment requires a willingness to house and feed families for an unknown period of time because placed victims have no homes or jobs to which they can return.

Donations of bottled water and ready-to-eat food, shipped by UPS, also are needed.

Individuals interested in sharing their homes should fax a letter of interest to Marlene Martinez at the Catholic Charities Agency of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, at (225) 336-8745. The fax should list the name of the head of household, address, a contact phone number, number of bedrooms available and number of individuals that can be housed.

UPS shipments of water and food should be sent to Catholic Charities Agency of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, 1900 South Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70921-1668.
