Online survey about perceptions of UD

1:47 p.m., Sept. 30, 2005--“What six words would you use to describe the University of Delaware?” That’s the question that begins a short online survey of students, faculty and staff that UD’s offices of undergraduate admissions and institutional research are hoping will help reveal how UD is perceived.

Students, faculty and staff are being urged to participate in the online survey at [www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=694501323850] for students and [www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=697441324004] for faculty and staff.

Questions include: “What makes UD unique?” “Who do you consider to be UD’s most notable faculty and alumni?” “What academic institutions do you consider to be most similar to UD?”

Amy Foley, senior associate director of admissions, said the survey will end Oct. 31 and results should be available in December. “Our goal is to enhance communication among all campus populations,” she said. “The work that admissions and institutional research are doing will help us know each other a lot better.”

Foley said a similar survey was done eight years ago and was a contributing factor in “the success UD has enjoyed and the changing nature of the student body.” She said the results will be shared with all interested parties on campus.

Within the past year and a half, admissions and institutional research have surveyed a variety of audiences, including incoming freshman, admitted students who chose to attend other institutions and high school students who had shown an interest in UD but did not apply. Now, they want to hear from UD students, faculty and staff.
