Free ice skating and hockey clinics Aug. 24, 29

8:57 a.m., Aug. 15, 2005--Local youngsters will have two chances to learn about ice skating and ice hockey during clinics being offered free at UD’s Fred Rust Ice Arena, from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 29.

The University of Delaware ice arenas are offering “Learn-to-Skate” and “Learn-to-Play Hockey” clinics so that parents and kids can see how it’s done and consider signing up for classes.

Learn-to-Skate

This clinic is a sample of what will be taught in classes consisting of on- and off-ice technique demonstrations and instruction, including an exhibition. Instructors from the Learn-to-Skate program will be there to answer questions.

For more information, call (302) 831-8628 or e-mail [gotice@udel.edu].

Learn-to-Play Hockey

The hockey staff will introduce basic hockey skills as a preview of what will be taught in classes. Hockey sticks, helmets, gloves and skates will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis.

For more information, call (302) 831-1350 or e-mail [jcousin@udel.edu].

Clinics start promptly at 7 p.m., so parents and players are advised to arrive early to put on equipment and skates.
