Fundraising scam for WVUD reported 3:39 p.m., Aug. 18, 2005--A listener of UD radio station WVUD has reported being approached by three young men in the Governors Square Shopping Center in Bear, who said they were soliciting donations for the station. The men, described as being white males with buzz-cut haircuts, claimed that the station was in trouble and that they needed to raise money by the end of the day. The listener who reported the incident said the men drove off in a gray passenger van with Illinois or Indiana license number 5046690. Chuck Tarver, assistant director of student centers and WVUD station manager, said that the station is in good financial shape, and the stations official fundraiser is held during the spring semester. We never send people out into public places to solicit funds, Tarver said. This sort of thing happens every so often in college towns. Tarver encouraged anyone with concerns about this scam to call the station at (302) 831-2701. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
