Fall nursing lecture series set

10:51 a.m., Oct. 7, 2005--UD’s College of Health Sciences is sponsoring a fall research lecture series that will feature guest speakers from UD and the University of Pennsylvania. The lectures will focus on the latest medical research findings and will range from the unlikely connection between cancer and snakes to the most recent breakthroughs in gerontology.

All lectures, which are free and open to members of the University community, will take place from 1:30-3 p.m., in 007 Willard Hall Education Building.

The following lectures are scheduled:

  • “What Can You Ask a Snake About Cancer?” by Mary Ann McLane, associate professor in UD’s Department of Medical Technology, Monday, Oct. 10;
  • “Old Age Is Not a Diagnosis: Creating the Field of Gerontology,” by Neville Strumpf, Edith Clemmer Steinbright Professor in Gerontology and director of the Center for Gerontologic Nursing Science, University of Pennsylvania, Monday, Oct. 17; and
  • “Qualitative Research: Family Management and Childhood Illness,” by Janet Deatrick, associate professor of nursing, University of Pennsylvania, Monday, Nov. 28.

The series is supported by a National Institutes of Health grant in the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence program of the National Center for Research Resources. For more information, call (302) 831-8375.
