1 p.m., June 27, 2005--The first MyCourses Exemplary Application Contest Award winners were announced June 21, at UD’s Summer Faculty Institute.

The awards went to faculty who have met standards of excellence-in-learning supported by technology in the design of their WebCT courses. The courses were evaluated based on criteria set by a panel of judges from various University units.

The four winners each will receive a $500 contribution to their professional development accounts, with honorable mention awardees receiving $100 each.

Winners provided institute attendees with overviews and demonstrations of their MyCourses classes and discussed strategy for the design of their classes and their most effective features.

Those honored included:

  • Richard Gearhart, supplemental faculty chemistry and biochemistry, for "Chemistry and the Human Environment";
  • Richard Hanley, assistant professor of philosophy, for “Contemporary Moral Problems”; and
