Violinist Gao in concert in Georgetown

Xiang Gao with UD’s Ceruti violin
4:08 p.m., Sept. 16, 2005--Internationally renowned violinist Xiang Gao, associate professor of music, will be the featured soloist in the Butterfly Lovers Concerto at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at the theatre of Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown.

The concert is free and open to the public, but reservations must be made because of limited seating by calling the Delaware Music School at (302) 422-2043.

The concert will begin with violin show pieces and then continue with the concerto, a bittersweet story of two young lovers. The multimedia performance will include spoken readings, piano accompaniment by Julie Nishimura, accompanist and coach in the music department, and visual images based on Chinese art.

Gao will play on UD’s Ceruti violin, a rare Italian instrument made in the late 18th or early 19th Century.

The performance is funded by a $10,000 grant to the Delaware Music School by the National Endowment for the Arts.
